Hitachi and HGST Touro recovery in Temecula
Hitachi and HGST external drives were sold until the brand was absorbed into Western Digital. None are made today, so every Touro still in use is an aging drive, often holding an old backup that has become the only copy.
Hitachi external drives we recover
- Touro Mobile, Mobile Pro and Touro S
- Portable 2.5-inch drives built on Travelstar disks.
- Touro Desk and Desk Pro
- Desktop drives built on Deskstar disks.
- SimpleDrive, SimpleTOUGH and LifeStudio
- Earlier Hitachi-branded externals.
- G-Technology
- Hitachi's professional line. See G-Technology recovery.
Faults we see on Touro drives
- Age-related head wear
- Slow reading, clicking and drives that drop out after a few minutes.
- Stuck heads
- A drive that has sat unused for years and now buzzes without spinning up.
- Bridge board failure
- The USB adapter board inside the enclosure fails. The disk behind it is often perfectly healthy.
- Bad sectors
- Files that will not copy and folders that will not open.
- Power adapter faults on desktop models
- Including damage from using the wrong adapter.

Good news about older Hitachi drives
Most Touro models use a standard SATA drive with a separate USB board, and they are not hardware encrypted. That keeps recovery straightforward compared with many newer portable drives. Hitachi mechanisms are also well understood, and we hold donor parts for them.
If your Touro is not detected, makes unusual sounds or shows errors, unplug it and call RMLD on (951) 595-8065, or start a case online. See also Hitachi internal drive recovery.
